Guest Room Seven is a very masculine looking room with full draperies and cornices – but is often a favorite of our women guests who describe it as “uniquely romantic.” The paneled walls (original to the house) are faux-finished a deep gold-brown and then glazed with a burnt umber finish. Decorated in bamboo, rattan, and with accessories and artwork from the Amazon River Basin, Guest Room Seven is very exotic and romantic. It could be described as a cross between “Out of Africa,” Key West, and the Orient Express. The headboard on the king size bed was designed by the innkeeper. The art includes framed fabric, antique ducks, oars, Kenyan baskets, and unique seashells. The slipper chairs have been upholstered in stunning yellow with leather trim, and brilliant blue. Note the perfect Art Deco table between the two chairs. The wallpaper, called Orange Grove, brings green and orange into the terra-cotta colored bathroom, which also features marble vanity, marble floor, and a garden-sized soaking tub. From the bathtub, there is a wonderful view of rooftops and chimneys. Don’t miss the leopard print carpet. This third floor guest room is just steps from access to the cupola – the highest residential point in the city – with an intimate seating area and 360-degree view of historic Wilmington. The floor to ceiling French windows at either end of the third floor hallway lead to an external staircase. Current room rates on reservation site.
